In a bowl, combine chicken and garlic salt. Toss until well coated. Cover and marinate at least 1 hour, up to overnight. Hold refrigerated until ready to par-cook.
Set oven to 300°F. Lay chicken halves on a wire rack over a parchment lined sheet tray. Roast chicken to an internal temperature of 145°F.
Remove from oven and brush each half chicken with 1/4 cup BBQ Sauce. Return to oven and roast to an internal temperature of 165°F. Hold warm for service.
Service
Set grill to medium high. For each serving, grill one halved chicken, basting with 1/4 cup BBQ sauce. Grill until well marked. Serve hot with additional BBQ sauce on the side.
